The Tennis Fiji-Jacks of Fiji Tennis Open 2013 concluded over the weekend with 2 players becoming two time Men’s and Ladies Open Champions of the Fiji Open. Cyril Jacobe (VAN) emulated the feat he achieved in 2006 by becoming the Fiji Open 2013 Men’s Singles Champion beating William O’ Connell (FIJ) in the final 6/1, 6/4. Similarly in the Ladies Singles Open, Marcia Tere-Apisah (PNG) repeated what she had achieved in 2009 by beating the defending champion, Tarani Kamoe (FIJ) in 3 sets 4/6, 6/4, 6/2.
There were a total of 314 matches played over 5 days(though one day was washed out by torrential rain so in effect 4 days) at the Denerau Golf and Racket Club comprising a total of 3,712 games. Some intermittent rain, unusual for this time of the year, meant that some matches that were scheduled for the grass court were transferred to the synthetic grass courts at the Nadi Sport’s Centre. This necessitated playing some pro sets to ensure that the event would be completed.
