Pacific Oceania Davis Cup Team to Play next week in Iran

The Pacific Oceania Davis Cup Team of William O’ Connell(FIJ), Brett Baudinet(CI), Heve Kelley (TAH), Daniel Llarenas(GUM) and Gilles De Gouy-captain (TAH) are all currently en route to Tehran, Iran where they will play next week at the Esteghlal International Tennis Academy Venue on clay in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Group III following their promotion from Group IV last year

9 Teams will be completing as follows with their respective World rankings in brackets: Iran (87); Syria (90); Lebanon (93); Turkmenistan (95); Hong Kong China (96); Cambodia (97); Pacific Oceania (99); Qatar (100) and Singapore (103). The team nominations are Davis Cup 2016 AO III Team Nominations 04.07.16

There will be 1 Pool of 4 Teams (Pool A) and 1 Pool of 5 Teams (Pool B). Iran will be the top seed in Pool A and Syria the top seed in Pool B.

The draw will be conducted on Sunday 10th local time at 10:00am. The process is that the remaining 7 teams are respectively drawn in pairs into either Pool A or B with the final 3 Nations (Pacific Oceania, Qatar and Singapore) drawn together-this latter process is a regulation change effective this year.

Play will start on Monday 11th July with the play offs taking place on Saturday 16th July and will be as follows: The winner of Pool A will play against the runner-up of Pool B and the runner-up of Pool A will play off against the winner of Pool B to determine which 2 Nations will be promoted to Group II in 2017

In the relegation play offs Nations will compete in the following order:

  • A3 vs B5
  • A4 vs B4
  • The 2 losing Nations will be relegated to Asia/Oceania Group IV in 2017

The Nation finishing 3rd in Pool B will not compete in positional play offs
