Samoa will host the 16th Pacific Games from the Opening Ceremony on Sunday 7th July to the Closing Ceremony on Saturday 20th July. This will be the 3rd time that Samoa has hosted the Games, the last time being in 2007. The Games were originally awarded to Tonga, but Tonga officially withdrew in May 2017 from hosting the event. These Games will see the introduction of an additional discipline for basketball, which is the 3 x 3 format as well as the return of archery and badminton which were not on the 2015 programme.
24 Nations (the 22 Pacific Games Association Member Countries and Territories plus Australia and New Zealand) are expected to compete in 26 sports with some 3,500 athletes expected to participate.
