Open Junior BNP Paribas ITF New Caledonia

Tournament Referee, Pat O’ Rourke, writes that ”

The longstanding tournament attracted a very good field with a boys qualifying for the first time since it became a 48 draw event. At the end of the week the same singles winners emerged as in week one. Lara Walker played superb tennis all week and was much too good for Koyama from Japan again second time around.

Alex Bulte faced a different opponent in the Boys Singles final. Hikaru Takeda did not play the first week but quickly adapted to the conditions and played very good tennis to reach the final. However Bulte was too strong claiming his second singles title in Noumea with a 63 63 victory.

The Girls Doubles final was an all Japanese affair with singles finalist Kokomi Koyama and partner Yukina Kubo just edging Ayaka Koga and Pete Komada 26 63 (10-7).The Boys Doubles proved to be a very interesting event. Young Japaanese pair Hiroya Iimura and Kan Watanabe, who had to play qualifying in singles, showed up as an outstanding attacking doubles combination. Playing with great enthusiasm they upset Bulte and Qariaqus on the way to the final. Once there they comfortably beat New Zealand pair Corban Crowther and Caelan Potts 64 64.”
