It is with a very heavy heart that we advise the passing of Dr. Amaki Fakokovikaetau earlier this week. Amanaki was a true pioneer for the Tonga Sports Association, the Tonga National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) and the Tonga Tennis Federation with his service to the Executive Board dating back to the early 2000s. He is the current President of the Tonga National Badminton Association and Vice-President of the Tonga Tennis Federation.
His service to sport including the numerous occasions when he was Chef de Mission to sporting events including:
- 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games
- 2011 New Caledonia Pacific Games
- 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games
- 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games
- 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games
His contribution to Tonga Tennis and the wider sport has been immense and unparalleled in Tonga as has been his leadership in TASANOC. The Oceania Tennis Community mourn a legend in tennis across Pacific Oceania. The OTF extend our heartfelt condolences to his family.
