ITF AGM-Zagreb, Croatia

Last week, the ITF held their AGM in Zagreb, Croatia. A large group from the OTF Executive and Member Nations attended the Conference.

The ITF President, David Haggerty, outlined his vision with the theme being “Working for Nations.” He made 5 promises:

  1. That every Nation would have a voice
  2. That no Nation would lose money on Davis Cup or Fed Cup
  3. That there would be a significant Development Spending increase to Nations
  4. That he would work to significantly improve collaboration with the ATP, WTA, Grand Slams and other Allied Partners
  5. There would be new avenues and ways to increase revenue

He commented that the Davis Cup and Fed Cup were unique and were the flagship events of the ITF.

He then went on to comment on the ITF Business Plan (“ITF 2024) and that:

  • The Vision was to inspire the World through Tennis
  • The Mission was to develop, grow and promote tennis around the World
  • And that the Strategic priorities were:
    • Development-to increase investment and expertise into development programmes
    • Opportunity-provide opportunities to play at all levels of the game
    • Communication- to engage with, listen to and understand the ITF’s National and Regional Associations

He then expanded on the Development Strategy by stating that the ITF tenets would be:

  • Vision- a World where the ITF’s Development Programmes contribute to the consistent global growth and quality of tennis
  • Mission- to increase the number and standard of players worldwide
  • Core Objectives-
    • Increase Participation-in tennis worldwide for all ages, genders, playing standards and physical abilities
    • Develop Talented Players-particularly from Nations that are both under-resourced and under-represented

He went on to say that the Strategic Priorities for 2016-2020 would be Events, Facilities, Coaching and Programmes. He detailed this further by saying that the Strategy Detail and Activities to support this would be:
