The Pacific Oceania Davis Cup Team lost their opening round robin match to the top seeds, Iran, at the start of their quest to be promoted to Group II, Asia/Oceania Zone in 2017.
In the opening rubber of the Tie, the #2 player from Iran Anoosha Shahgholi defeated the # 2 Pacific Oceania player, Heve Kelley 6-1,6-4. Then the #1 player from Iran Shahin Khaledan defeated the #1 player from pacific Oceania, William O’Connell, 6-1, 6-1.
In the doubles the team from Iran of Mohammad Karegaran/Amirvala Madanchi prevailed against the Pacific Oceania Team of Brett Baudinet/Daniel Llarenas 6-3,6-4 to give Iran a comprehensive win 3 rubber to 0. The Pool standings in Pool A are DC AO GR III Group A standings and those in Pool BDC AO GR III Group B standings. Pacific Oceania need to finish in the top 2 places in their Pool A to play off for promotion.
