Referee, Pat O’Rourke, writes that “New Caledonian 15 year old Yaelle Honakoko was the toast of local tennis fans when she defended her singles title at the 2014 ITF World Junior Circuit event in Noumea. After battling an abdominal injury in defeating Ramu Moriguchi (JPN) 6-0 2-6 6-2 she came out strongly in the final using her backhand to great effect to beat Gabriella da Silva Fick (AUS) 6-0 6-4.
The Boy’s events were dominated by experienced New Zealand players. Kiranpal Pannu beat Zac Whaanga in a thrilling 3 set final 4-6 6-3 6-2 after Whaanga had played his best tennis ever to win through to the final. Whaanga got his revenge in the doubles final combining with Dominic Miller to beat Pannu and Jack Heslin in an excellent match 6-7 (3) 6-2 (10-7).
