Marcia Tere-Apisah(PNG) is into the 2nd Round of the Gallipoli Youth Tennis Cup being played on the clay courts at Melbourne Park. She beat the Australian 7th seed Katerina Valos, with a World Junior ITF ranking of 486, 6-4,3-6, 6-1 with a punishing final set. Given that the 3rd seed in the same quarter was also beaten, this will likely open up the draw for her to hopefully reach the semi-finals.
Unfortunately the other 4 Pacific Oceania girls, (Annie Shannon, Tarani Kamoe, Yaelle Honakoko and Assya Trimari) were not able to emulate Marcia’s performance with all exiting the Girl’s Singles in the 1st Round.
