ITF Open Junior BNP Paribas de Nouvelle-Caledonie

Tournament Referee, Pat O’Rourke writes that ” the 11th annual ITF World Junior circuit event held in Noumea drew excellent entries from more than 15 countries across Asia, Pacific and USA. The event featured the largest and strongest contingent from Japan ever and these players featured in all the main draw finals.

Brother and sister pair Taisei and Ayumi Miyamoto from Japan contested the boys and girls singles and doubles respectively. Ayumi was the star, completely eclipsing Mimi Levine (USA) 6,1 6,1 in the girls final after having combined with Levine to win the doubles the previous day.

Top seed in the boys singles Moerani Bouzige (AUS) looked like going down in straight sets in the final to fifth seed Taisei Miyamoto after losing the first set and being match point down in the second. However when he finally got the second set to a tiebreaker he never looked back taking the breaker 7-1 and then racing through the third set 6-2 to clam the title 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-2. Bouzigue(left in the picture below), who is of French and Tahitian descent, was strongly supported by the local New Caledonia people.

Taisei Miyamoto and his fellow Japanese partner Yuki Watanabe (left in the picture below) cruised through the boys doubles draw and took top seeds Seon Yong Han (KOR) and Alan Sou (HKG) apart in the final winning 6-2 6-1.

There was some reward for the local players when Yaelle Honakoko took out the Girl’s Consolation Singles 6-3 7-5 over Stella Cliffe from New Zealand.

The event is a popular one with the players who appreciate the special touches provided by the organisers including complimentary airport transfers and lunches for main draw players. Full results can be found here”
