Earlier in the tournament Patrick O’Rourke, the ITF Representative writes that ” in pool play the Pacific Oceania team scored an excellent win over the Philippines 2-1 to finish 3rd in their pool. They then moved to the play offs for the 9th to 16th place. In the first Play off match they lost 3-0 to Korea. This then pitted them against Sri Lanka.

In a change from the normal order the # 1 players took the court first as the Sri Lankan player had to leave to represent her country in Fed Cup this week. Tammy Ackerman faced her and fought hard but went down 7-5 6-1. Mulan Kamoe then played the other singles and was too steady winning 6-3 6-4 levelling the tie at one match all. Team captain Andrew Mailtorok went with his experienced doubles pair of Mulan Kamoe and Ayana Rengil for the deciding match. They started well racing to a 4-1 lead and then never looked back taking the match 6-3 6-1 to give Pacific Oceania their second victory of the competition.
