Andrew Mailtorok reports on the Opening Day that “Vinda Teally (SOL) had an outstanding start to the Tournament yesterday defeating Emma Eccleton (NZL) with an ITF Junior ranking of 217 . Vinda started somewhat nervously with numerous unforced errors to lose the 1st set 6-3. After being down 4 games in the 2nd set, she fought back tenaciously to win that 6-4. Then closing out the match 7-5 in the 3rd set producing outstanding tennis on the big points.She will now have to play Samuelle Bull (CAL) in the next round.
Annie Shannon (FIJ) will play Lana Popovich, with a NZ ranking of 52, if the current rain eases up.”
